Per 312.5 mg/5 mL oral susp Amoxicillin trihydrate 250 mg, clavulanic acid 62.5 mg. Per 457 mg/5 mL oral susp Amoxicillin trihydrate 400 mg, clavulanic acid 57 mg. Per 642.9 mg/5 mL oral susp Amoxicillin 600 mg, clavulanic acid 42.9 mg
Indications or Uses: FC tab: UTI due to susceptible organisms; for otitis media or sinusitis due to resistant microorganisms (eg, H. influenzae, S. pneumoniae, M. catarrhalis); for lower resp tract & skin infections due to susceptible organisms; & for polymicrobial infections w/ mixed aerobic & anaerobic eg, diabetic foot, gynecologic & intra-abdominal infections. Oral susp: Resp tract, GUT, abdominal, skin & soft tissue infections.
Dosage and Directions for Use: FC tab: URTI (o s media; H. influenzae, H. parainfluenzae), lower resp tract infec on (bronchi s; H. influenzae, H. parainfluenzae), UTI (E. coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae), skin & so ssue infec on (Staph aureus) 625 mg: 1 tab every 8 hr. 1 g: 1 tab every 12 hr. Oral susp: Childn 25 mg/kg/day. Serious infection Up to 50 mg/kg/day. To be taken in divided doses 8 hrly.
Administration: FC tab: Oral susp:
: Preferably taken at the start of meals for better absorption & to reduce GI discomfort.
Contraindication: FC tab: Hypersensitivity to β-lactams eg, penicillins, cephalosporins, & clavulanic acid. Oral susp: Hypersensitivity to penicillin. History of amoxicillin-K clavulanate- associated cholestatic jaundice/hepatic dysfunction.
Special Precaution: FC tab: Reports of serious & occasionally fatal hypersensitivity (anaphylactic) reactions & patients w/ history of penicillin hypersensitivity that have experienced severe reac ons when treated w/ cephalosporins. Discontinue treatment if an allergic reaction occurs. Possibility of superinfections w/ mycotic or bacterial pathogens during therapy; discontinue treatment & appropriate therapy instituted if superinfection occurs. Consider diagnosis of pseudomembranous colitis in patients who present w/ diarrhea subsequent to administration of an bacterial agents. Avoid use in pregnancy, especially during 1st trimester unless considered essential. Oral susp: Monitor renal function. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reaction: Oral susp: Transient hepatitis & cholestatic jaundice; skin rash, urticaria, angioedema, anaphylaxis; pseudomembranous colitis; Stevens-Johnson syndrome; maculopapular rash; diarrhea, nausea & vomiting.
Interactions: FC tab: Reports of prolongation of bleeding time & prothrombin time. Use w/ care in patients on anticoagulation therapy. May reduce efficacy of OCs. May increase likelihood of allergic skin reactions w/ concomitant use of allopurinol. Oral susp: Probenecid, OCs.
