FORMULATION:

Each mL SOMAZINE for Adult Oral Drops contains
100mg citicoline

Each mL SOMAZINE 500 injection contains
125mg citicoline

Each mL SOMAZINE 1000 injection contains
250mg citicoline

PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES:

Citicoline (CDP-Choline), active principle of SOMAZINE, stimulates the biosynthesis of cerebral phosphatidylcholine, main structural component of the phospholipids of the neuronal membrane.

Citicoline increases the neurotransmission levels because it favors the synthesis and production speed of dopamine in the striatum, acting then as dopominergic agonist through the inhibition of tyrosine hydroxilase. Citicoline behaves like a presypnatic cholinergic agent in favoring the synthesis of acetylcholine.

Citicoline improves the neuronal metabolism in those cases where there is a neuronal deterioration due to degenerative, toxic or ischemic cause.

INDICATIONS:

Cerebrovascular accident in acute and recovery phase, symptoms and signs of cerebral insufficiency such as dizziness, memory loss, poor concentration, disorientation, etc. and recent cranial traumatism and their sequelae.

DOSAGE:

CEREBRAL INSUFFICIENCY
SOMAZINE Adult Oral Drops - 100 - 200mg (1-2mL) two or three times a day.


As maintenance dose, 1 mL is recommended, three times a day or as prescribed by the physician.

ACUTE PHASE OF STROKE AND CEREBRAL TRAUMA
SOMAZINE Injection (4mL ampoule)
SOMAZINE 1000 injection - 1-2 ampoules/day
SOMAZINE 500 injection - 1 ampoule/day



RECOVERY PHASE OF STROKE
SOMAZINE Adult Oral Drops (15mL bottle) 100-200mg (1-2mL) two to three times a day.

CONTRAINDICATIONS:

Must not be administered to patients with hypertonia of the parasympatetic.

SIDE EFFECTS:

Gastrointestinal disorders

PRECAUTIONS:

Must not be administered along with medications containing meclofenoxate (also known as clophenoxate).

INTERACTION:

Somazine potentiates the effects of L-dopa.
