Rifampicin
NATRICIN FORTE®

FORMULATION:

200mg/5mL Rifampicin suspension

INDICATION:

Tuberculosis in all forms, tuberculosis primary infections, hematogenous tuberculosis, adenopathies and all clinical forms of tuberculosis.

DOSAGE:

10mg/kg bodyweight with a daily maximum dosage of 600mg or as prescribed by the physician. It should be taken one (1) hour before or 2 hours after meals.

PRESENTATION:

Bottles of 60mL and 120mL

CONTRAINDICATIONS:

Presence of jaundice;history of hypersensitivity reaction to any rifampicins

WARNINGS:

Rifampicin has been shown to produce liver dysfunction. Since an increased risk may exist for individuals with liver disease, benefit must be weighed carefully against any risk of further liver damage. Periodic liver function monitoring is mandatory.

ADVERSE DRUG REACTIONS:

Teratogenicity of rifampicin in human has not been reported. Occasionally pruritus, rash , sore mouth and tongue, urticaria, and exudative conjunctivitis are manifested. Gastrointestinal disturbances, fever and generalized numbness, allergic immunologic reactions are rare. Generally they occur during intermittent therapy or when treatment was resumes following interruption of a daily dose regimen. These are however, reversible upon discontinuation of therapy.

INTERACTIONS:

The blood concentrations of methadone, oral glycemic agents, digitalis derivatives, corticosteroids and anticoagulants may be affected if rifampicin is given simultaneously. Dosage adjustment is recommended in such cases.
