Levomepromazine/ Methotrimeprazine
NOZINAN®

Indications:

    Psychotic disturbances: acute and chronic schizoprenia, senile psychoses, manic depressive syndromes.

    Conditions associated with anxiety and tension. Autonomic disturbances, emotional troubles secondary to physical conditions.

    As a sedative: for the management of insomnia.

Dosage:

    Must be adjusted according to the indication and the individual needs of the patient. If sedation occurs during the day, administer a larger portion of the dose at night.

    Oral route: begin treatment with 1 tablet x 25mg. per day; increase until the desired effect is obtained.

    I.M. route: initial dose of 25mg. repeated 2 or 3 times during the day, if necessary.

Contraindications:

    Coma or CNS depression. In patients with blood dyscrasia, hepatic troubles or a sensitivity to phenothiazines.

Precautions:

    In high oral doses or by the parenteral route, orthostatic hypotension may be encountered; patients should be kept in bed during the first few days. Therapy should be initiated at low doses in patients with glaucoma or prostatic hypertrophy. The potentiating effects of the drug should be considered when CNS depressants are administered concomitantly. During long term therapy, periodic liver function tests and blood counts should be performed, particularly during the first two or three months of treatment. As for all medicines, use with cautionduring pregnancy.

Side Effects:

    Drowsiness may occur with large doses and during early treatment, therefore patients should be cautioned not to drive a car or participate in activities requiring mental alertness. Dryness of the mouth, blurred vision, urinary retention, constipation and tachycardia have been reported. Extra pyramidal effects, agranulocytosis, cholestatic jaundice, photosensivity or allergic skin reactions have rarely been observed.

Overdosage:

    No specific antidote; after gastric lavage, symptomatic treatment. If hypertensive agent is required, norepinephrine should be used since epinephrine can aggravate hypotension.

Dosage Forms:

    tablets of 25 mg. in bottles of 100's, tablets of 100mg in bottles of 100's, ampoules of 25mg/mL in boxes of 5's.
