Overview
Known as the Pearl of the Orient, the Republic of the Philippines is a melting pot of Eastern and Western influences. An archipelago of 7,107 islands in the Western Pacific Ocean, this nation is located in Southeast Asia. Although surrounded by neighboring countries like Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Republic of China, it is the only Southeast Asian country that does not share land borders with other nations.
The country also has the 12th largest population and the 37th largest national economy in the world.
